I did not know what to expect when I was offered a job at Our Thriftstore several years ago. I was comfortable with the retail aspect of the job, but nervous about working with Adults with special needs. Nothing prepared me for how they would change my life and heart forever.
Working with our Adults on a daily basis, I couldn’t help but admire the joy and pride in everything they do. They love coming to work, because it gives them purpose, teaches them to overcome challenges, and provides them with a sense of community. Lifelong friendships have been formed here, that go way beyond the doors of Our Thrift Store.
Through working at Our Thrift Store, interacting and being loved on by the Adults with special needs, our leaders Dave and Sandy, as well as all the other wonderful employees, I changed from being task driven to being heart driven.
I have learned about grace, patience, unconditional love, passion, and flexibility. I don’t know exactly when it happened, but my heart was changed to not only embrace everyone else’s flaws, but also my own.
I love coming to work everyday, living out what has turned into my passion.
Our Thrift Store is truly a special place.
